 In the last few years Hogwarts has gone through many changes most sparked by the death of Dumbledore in 1997. As canon suggests the 1997-1998 school year was a time of revolution. The Carrows were relentless in disciplining the students with brutal techniques even the Cruciatus Curse. Dumbledore's Army was reformed to combat the regime recruiting a few new members. Many were punished brutally near the end of the school year and many hid in the Room of Requirement. For many this would not have been permanent. Co-an siding with Holly Potter's announced death and the Dark Lady's rise to the Ministry many of the DA would re-emerge and take their punishments realising how hopeless the situation was. The extent of the punishment would have alternated with the blood status of each character and the level of their supposed 'crimes' by the Carrows. Many would have gone on to take their NEWTs, some may have been expelled before that point or left on their own accord. The current school year (1998-1999) has began relatively normal. Muggleborns are banned from the school's hall like in the wider community and the punishments have been reduced to something resembling what it used to be like under Dumbledore. Many of the old teachers like McGonagall have returned to protect their students (though their authority has been stripped), yet classes like Defence Against the Dark Arts and Muggle Studied (still compulsory) are shadows of their former selves. The school is slanted heavily in favour of purebloods and the Carrows remember exactly who disobeyed them last year, but it could be almost described as normal. However, this is only the beginning. It will only remain as long as compliance is maintained towards their regime and with the times changing that is unlikely to continue. After the Blood Registration Act was passed by the Ministry Hogwarts began changing how leadership positions were awarded. All those of lesser blood lost their Prefect, Quiditch Captain and Head positions and they were replaced by full and purebloods (indicated by *).
